Grass Paving Installation Guidelines |
1. Sown Grass - needs little aftercare
2. Paving Filling - A substrate mixture of topsoil and compost or lava rock, gravel or bark
3. Balancing Layer - Split sand mixture 0/5 to 0/10 with fertilizer or lava split 3/5
4. Support Layer - Thickness as detailed below with grit/sand 0/32 up to 20cm thick. Gravel 0/45 up to about 15 to 55 cm in thickness
Mark out the area to be covered with Grass Paving adding around 15 cm extra all around. Excavate the full marked area to the following depth below the required top surface of the Grass Paving.
Garage Driveways 30cm, Parking Area 35cm, Emergency Access 54cm or Heavy Trucks 60cm
With the full area excavated, compact the whole area and install a permanent perimeter fringe. We recommend that this is concreted into position and allowed to set.
The support layer of Granular Class A gravel to within 8 to 10 cm grade can be placed on top of this compacted area to a depth of the following :
Garage Driveways 22cm, Parking Area 27cm, Emergency Access 45cm and Heavy Trucks 50cm
Compact the Class A gravel and then put a 4cm thick layer of sand on top. The sand needs to be levelled accurately with a spirit level and smoothed down. When the finished area is to be grassed over we recommend the sand be replaced with a sieved 50/50 mix of sand and compost. |
Interlock and set the Grass Pavers in straight lines and ensure that they are all going in the same direction. Any Grass Pavers needing cutting should be measured and cut with a fret saw before attempting installation, with the Grass Paver being cut to leave solid enclosed chambers on the edge wherever possible. With all the Grass Pavers in the correct position slightly compact them onto the sand and ensure they remain flat and level. We recommend the outer edge pavers be further held with 3 stakes per metre at this stage. |
The Grass Pavers can now be filled with the required medium of either gravel, lava rock, bark or a mixture of compost and top soil with grass seed sown in. Wash in the Mixed Substrate to a level 1cm beneath the top of the Grass Pave which will protect the grass whilst it becomes established. |
