Grass Reinforcement

This Grass Reinforcement Mesh is a tough, flexible, long lasting polymer grid to permanently reinforce grassed areas used by vehicles and pedestrians. Grass intertwines with and grows through the mesh, giving a natural appearance.

Applications Include: Overspill car parks, grassed access routes, caravan parks, lawns subject to heavy pedestrian use, grass verges in urban and parkland areas, driving ranges as an anti-ball plugging mesh and as a support underneath rubber mats in children's playgrounds.

Installation It is strongly recommended that installation be carried out during the growing season to allow a strong interlock between the mesh and the grass roots, since the intertwining of the roots with the mesh gives the turf the strength to resist light traffic and temporary car parking. Therefore, a full growing season must be allowed before using the area. Once fixed in place, the grass will grow through the mesh and may then be mown, rolled and fertilised as usual. When fully established the mesh will be invisible and the turf will have a normal appearance.
Where a wide area is to be protected, the mesh should be overlapped and the layers held down with metal U or J pins.

The difference between the standard and the premium meshes is simply that the standard weight is 450g/mē, whereas the premium weight is 650g/mē. This means that the heavier premium grade can withstand more pressure from its load and is, therefore, stronger and more resistant.

This premium grade has been successfully installed in many applications such as overspill car parks, walk ways and air fields. The standard lighter weight mesh should only be used as an anti ball plugging mesh on driving ranges or as a grass reinforcement mesh where the traffic is very light weight or for very occasional use.

If your requirements are for a mesh to take heavier traffic then please look at the Grass Protection Mesh G5162.

To be used in conjunction with the grass reinforcement and protection meshes. Holds mesh in the ground until grass has grown through. Made from mild steel.

(A) INSTALLATION PROCEDURES FOR EXISTING GRASSED AREAS:

1. Spring is the ideal time for laying Turf protect because the grass will grow quickly through the mesh and the root mass will interlock with the mesh filaments.

2. Prepare the area by filling any depressions with soil and sand and cut the grass as short as possible. If the mesh is being laid over clay soil, we recommend that a suitable drainage system be installed to allow drainage of excess surface water.

3. Lay reinforcement mesh flat over the grass and fix the ends taut with metal U-pins or 3-pins. For wider areas, rolls should overlap by 150mm and be secured with the metal pins. Make sure mesh is tensioned whilst unrolling it. It may help to roll out the mesh in the opposite direction to the way it is wound onto the roll (convex direction).

4. To promote root growth around the mesh and increase stability, cover the area lightly with good quality, sandy topsoil and, if necessary, cover any bare areas with grass seed.

5. Grass should be fully established before using and mower blades should, initially, be set high (for the first 2 to 3 cuts).

6. Traffic and pedestrians should be kept off the area until the grass has become fully established with the mesh.

(B) INSTALLATION PROCEDURES FOR NEWLY SOWN AREAS

1. The ground surface should be reasonably level and cleared of debris and any local depressions should be in-filled with a mixture of sharp sand and topsoil.

2. Prepare the surface as a cultivated and well-firmed seedbed.
